How to Remove that Pesky Battery Corrosion

When was the last time you needed to change batteries only to find the old batteries had corroded? This is a simple trick I learned from my mom to clean up that battery corrosion so the next set you put in wont corrode as as quickly!

All you need for this quick clean up is

  • Vinegar
  • Q-tips
  • corroded battery compartment
Mine looked like this

All you need to do is dip the Q-tip in the vinegar and swab it onto the corrosion. It will fizz, I think thats how you know it's working (that's what I tell myself anyway). It comes off fairly quickly!
As the vinegar fizzes and loosens the corrosion, wipe it away with a clean, dry Q-tip. Be sure to let it dry before putting batteries into the compartment!

It turned out pretty good if you ask me!
Let me know how it works for you!

Magnetic Makeup

Ever since I saw this magnetic makeup board on Pinterest I have been wanting to make one. It is so irritating not being able to find exactly what I want in the morning because all of my makeup is piled inside a little makeup bag. I was so excited when I got the frame and went out looking for a small sheet of metal to put inside for my magnets to stick to. I ran out to Lowe's because SURELY they had metal sheets they could cut to the size I need! ...Nope! They had small sheets but not the right size and they don't cut metal and the sheets they did have were at least $25 each...I wasn't about to pay that. Home Depot didn't have any either and neither did Ace Hardware. Walmart didn't have what I needed either. BAAAAHHHHHH!!!! Then when I was looking at Walmart for spray paint for plastic I found this,
MAGNETIC SPRAY PAINT!!! ho-ly COW!!!

I was so excited I ran home and immediately broke it open and started spraying away!

...it didn't work...

Back to square one I go... poo!

To the grocery store to buy groceries. Down the baking isle I found a 10x15 cookie sheet on sale, $5! They hold magnets! Into the buggy it goes! I had a pretty roll of wrapping paper, spray glue and my magnets.

After hubby left for work I broke out my supplies:

  • Cookie Sheet
  • Wrapping Paper
  • Spray Glue
  • Wrapping Paper Cutter or Scissors
  • Newspaper (to cover your work surface)
  • Mod Podge and Sponge Brush (which I decided I DID NOT need and therefore did not use)
  • and of course the leg of a small child! (which I also didn't use)
This was pretty simple

I just measured the amount of paper I needed, kinda like I was wrapping a present.
I had an audience the whole time!
Next I covered my work surface, the floor, with the newspaper and laid the cookie sheet on it face down (I am using the back of the cookie sheet as the front of my board) and sprayed the back and sides with glue.

I carefully laid the paper on the glue and smoothed out any bubbles. I also carefully pressed the paper onto the edges and into the creases.

Next I cut straight across the corners so they wouldn't be so bulky when I folded them under. I flipped the pan over and sprayed JUST the sides, so the edges of the paper sticks to the pan, and I folded the paper onto the edges of the pan.

My cookie sheet doesn't have a hole in the handle like some do so I used velcro dots on the edge of the pan.
After I put it on the wall I tried my 11x14 frame on top of it and it didn't look bad so I put nails in the appropriate places and hung the frame. Add makeup and TADA! Magnetic makeup board!

This project took me about 30 minutes with 2 babies to take care of, so, super simple!
Enjoy!

Fun for a Dollar

I  L.O.V.E. Target.  I also love the Dollar Store.  So, the dollar section of Target is almost Heaven! I found these cute, squishy, little robot window clings just before Valentine's Day, 2012. I was 26 weeks pregnant at the time with our little boy and thought they would be cute for belly pictures.

As I was cleaning I kept moving these around and could never find anywhere to put them, they were in my way, so I laid them on the dinning room table. My 20 month old climbed up in the chair and started touching them and wanted to play with them. I took them out of the package for her and let her go to town. For a dollar, she had at least an hour of fun, maybe more! It was fun for her to play with out her shirt because they would stick to her.

They are super stretchy!
I guess they feel funny when you put them under your arm too!

Even after her nap the first thing she wanted to do was play at the table again and this is a little girl who is too busy to do one thing for too long!

She even tried to put them on her tummy again
and when Oscar got in the way she just worked around him!

Of course, when she was finished the clings were torn apart and dirty so don't plan on using them for their originally intended purpose. I will be buying more of these and finding a place to put them for when I need her to sit in one place and play while I am busy cleaning or taking care of the baby. Have fun!

Organizing Yard Flags

Hello and HAPPY SUMMER!!!

I have been contemplating what my very first EVER blog post should be. I wanted it to be a good one, something fun and useful. So, since I have been trying to organize my life and my home and it is the beginning of summer, I thought I would show you how I decided to organize my small yard flags. I don't have many but I do have more than one and when I change them I like for them to not have creases when I hang them and I don't have time to be ironing yard flags...
Please ignore the long grass! I need to get on top of that...

This will only take you a couple seconds to do! Here is what you need.

  1. A regular plastic coat hanger
  2. Clippers
  3. Yard flag

Use the clippers to snip the hanger at the bottom.
Slip your yard flag onto one side and then center it on your hanger.

VoilĂ ! Now you can have your yard flags nice and organized and out of the way when you are not using them and easy to find when you want to use them!
